I was shocked and deeply saddened to read about the untimely death of Brother Roger, the founder of the Taize ecumenical movement in France. His efforts to unite the Body of Christ across denominational and language barriers have shaped the conversations about Christian identity and worship through the last sixty years.

May he rest in peace, and may his good work far outlive the shadow of this tragedy.

Oh my goodness! Yes, what a horrible horrible thing. I read the brief write-up in the Oregonian and it all seemed so perplexing, such a pointless idea of a target. The picture in my head of the singing, and the 2500 pilgrims and this woman coming out of nowhere for such a terrible act. The newspaper said that she slit his throat, which can't help but add to the atrocity of it all, but on later reads the description "stabbing" comes up, which is less loaded.
