Beautiful, yet random. But even more than that, I find myself struck by the distinct colors -- green grass & clover, green leaf, brown dirt, white petals, purplish-pink toenails.
You, my dear, have either an eye for color or a camera that captures it well.
Thanks! I was just happy that the photos turned out. I wish I had been able to really capture that flower. The pistons were at least an inch above the bloom, and they crossed over in two layers. It's hard to describe, but it was amazing. I need to find out what kind of flower it is.
Yeah, hey, that's a crazy flower, isn't it? I think I just take photography for granted, without realizing that most of the time the person taking the picture is *actually looking* at the subject. Huh. Go figure.
Right... pistils. Pistons are in engines. Although it would have been quite a picture if there were actually pistons growing in the flower. Thank your inner geek for thought-provoking edit.
Beautiful pictures! I love them all, but the one of your? feet in the grass makes me extra-happy...I can even feel the coolness beneath MY feet!...weird!:) I heard soccer was fabulous...we'll have to play again sometime yeah?, AND take pictures together, yeah? *Tiff
The flower is a "passion flower". I believe I was told by a biology student that it is related to the passion fruit, but don't quote me on that as they were just a student, not an expert. I took a picture very similar to that one about 2 years ago. I first discovered the plant in an allyway by SPU. I tried and tried to get a good angle on it to show the dimension but was unable to. You did a great job. Aren't they amazing! They grow like Clematis. I want to plant some in our new yard. OK I know that everything I just said was very choppy, but I thought I would let you into my head for a moment. It is rather discombobulated with this sinus infection.
PS http://sunflower.bio.indiana.edu/~rhangart/plantmotion/flowers/passionflower/passion.html a cool site I found about passion flowers. Watch the video and read about the origins of the name.
There is a big difference between being a "nerdy biology wonk" and someone who considers horticulture one of their hobbies. I appreciate the sentiment though. You're just lucky that my sense of humor allows for nerd jokes or my feelings could have been hurt.

And don't you mean "pistils" and not "pistons"?
Sorry.... My inner science geek was coming out there....

Thanks Tiff. We missed you on the field!
And yes, we should certainly make time for a long walk with our cameras.
BTW, whose beautiful smile is radiating from behind that leaf? I could learn to enjoy seeing that smile often....
And where do you worship in Portland? Imago Dei?
That's my lovely sister. She'll be flattered to know that she has an admirer.
And while I do have friends at Imago, I go to a fantastic church called Vibrant. There is a link on my blog.
Oh yeah.... She has an admirer....

Wow. And I thought that I was a nerdy biology wonk....
I guess when you consider that I left the hard sciences for the social sciences, I don't really know as much as I pretend to know sometimes....
