Hold your breath.

Christmas has passed- I hope you all enjoyed the time with friends and family. The holidays are wonderful because they are a legitimate excuse to spend enormous amounts of time with the people that I love. And we play card games! Has anyone out there ever tried the game called Set? It is a matching game based on visual perception, and anyone can play competitively with a little practice. I highly recommend it.

...........

2005 is almost over, but the New Year celebration is going to be a bit longer than last year. They (being the people who control such things) are adding a Leap Second to the end of December 31st in order to keep the atomic clock in sync with Earth's orbit.

...........

Who knew? Here's an interesting bit on the underlying correlation between dance and human attraction.

Oh yes, lots of us have; and so many other games that are "better" than Set.

I often wonder why others only bother with games around Christmas (which hasn't passed until Twelfth Night technically) when folk like me play all year round. Okay, I know; I am a little more interested than most.

Check out BoardGameGeek for lots of info on games; Set's entry is here.

Thanks for the links. You're right- we should play games more often. It just seems like everyone finally has time at the holidays.

So what games do you play year round? Any suggestions for other visual perception and/or strategy games?

Right- Christmas ends with Epiphany! Those poor Magi haven't even arrived yet; the party can't be over!

Ooh, lots! Don't get me started, you'll be here for ages!

We can, for the most part, thank the German nation for the developments in family strategy games. Germany has naturally avoided the common Western obsession with war-themed games and the results are fantastic!

You can get more information on that here.

I only started blogging recently, but you can find out about the games I play on my blog (don't be put off by the title - I just like a good pun, the material is quite innocent).

As for visual perception strategy games there are many to cater for your needs. Here are but a few:

Carcassonne
Ricochet Robot
Ingenious
Blokus
Project Kells
Tantrix

All these games (and others that do not necessarily require visual perception or spatial awareness) should be available, most are generally available others may require specialist retailers such as Funagain.

Now I think I've "board" you enough; I hope you find something you can enjoy!

Thanks for the great tips! I'd like to check out some of those that you suggested above. By looking at your blog, I can see that I have now been advised by a true expert.
